What do I do about rust on my trellis?Updated 10 months ago
Gardenary trellises are warranted against rust for three months from the date of purchase.
Rusting on a trellis is not a manufacturing defect, but rather a chemical reaction when the metal is exposed to oxygen and water. A detailed explanation of this process occurs when the iron particles are lost to the acidity in the water, causing the iron to become oxidized, forming iron. Then, when the iron is formed oxygen is released and causes those electrons to rise and form hydroxyl ions (rust).
All Gardenary trellises are made of powder-coated steel, which provides a barrier against rust. However, exposure to the outdoor elements can cause rust.
A couple of suggestions to prolong the life of your steel trellis:
Avoid watering and spraying the trellis directly
Cover the trellis during the winter season or during periods of non-use.
