What do I do about rust on my trellis?Updated 3 days ago

Gardenary trellises are warranted against rust for three months from the date of purchase.

Rusting on a trellis is not a manufacturing defect but rather a chemical reaction when the metal is exposed to oxygen and water. A detailed explanation of this process occurs when the iron particles are lost to the acidity in the water, causing the iron to become oxidized, forming iron. Then, when the iron is formed oxygen is released and causes those electrons to rise and form hydroxyl ions (rust). This is a natural weathering occurrence.

All Gardenary trellises are made of powder-coated steel, which provides a barrier against rust. However, exposure to the outdoor elements can cause natural weathering over time.

A couple of suggestions to prolong the life of your steel trellis:

  1. A clear UV spray can be purchased at your local hardware store in the paint department. Simply spray on 1-2 coats covering all areas of the trellis. Repeat each year.
  2. Avoid watering and spraying the trellis directly
  3. Cover the trellis during the winter season or periods of non-use.

If you notice rust within three months of purchase, please reach out to [email protected] with photos of the affected areas.
